Nov 27 - Thursday Thanksgiving Holiday Thanksgiving in the USA is the biggest North American holiday, thought to have started with New England pilgrims. Yet the earliest attested Thanksgiving celebration was on Sept 8, 1565 in St. Augustine, FL. According to author Robyn Gioia, a Spanish explorer, Pedro Menendez de Aviles, landed there on Sept 8, 1565, and celebrated a feast of thanksgiving with Timucua Indians. They dined on bean soup-56 years before before the Pilgrims sat down and shared a meal with natives at Plymouth Rock. (Source: USA Today). | ||||||||||||||||||||
