May 5 Ride-for-Hope Bahamas People of all ages and cycling abilities are invited to Ride-For-Hope, a charitable bike-a-thon. Start at North Eleuthera Airport and ride to any of the six turning kiosks as far as Governors Harbour to collect your wristband and register your distance. The charity ride was established by VMG Racing, a pro/am international sports foundation established in 2004 by Mark Holowesko to manage, promote and support athletes in several sports such as biking and sailing. Ride for Hope is the company's major philanthropic event, supported by the Lyford Cay Foundation and sponsors Million Air, Bahamas Ferries and New World Aviation. Apr 24-28 National Family Island Regatta in Exuma The most famous and usually the biggest regatta, held in Elizabeth Harbour, George Town, with much festivity. Native sloops compete for the end-of-season Baha Mar Boat of the Year Award, celebrated at a banquet. Baha Mar pledged $35,000 towards this year's cash prizes. All Andros & Berry Island Regatta winning sloops were: Goodnews (Class A), Eudeva (Class B) and Lady Eunice (Class C).
