Fox Hill Festival & Fox Hill Day

Aug 9 - 14

The Fox Hill Festival is an 11 day festival that ends with Fox Hill Day on the 14th, the longest running day festival in The Bahamas starting back in 1888. Legend has it that Fox Hill slaves received news of the freedom for slaves a week later than the rest of the island. Other events include: Thurs Aug 9th - Town meeting with MP Fred Mitchell and a tent reception with food and drinks showing photos of Fox Hill acheivements. Sat Aug 11th - Talent Show at 8 pmat the Parade. Sun Aug 12th - Annual Gospel Concert with various choirs, outdoors at the Parade. Tues Aug 14th - Fox Hill Day - Thanksgiving Services among four Baptist churches followed by the Fox Hill Day Fair, both at Freedom Park and the Parade with over 80 stalls selling food and drink with live music from Visage and other bands. Activities include the greasy pole, the maypole and other games. Ends at 12 midnight.

Bimini Fishing Tournament

The 57th Annual Native Fishing Tournament, a five-day event, ends on Fri Aug 10th, building camaraderie between the locals and visitors in a street festival atmosphere. A great part of the fun during the tournament comes from the activities held each night. It is here that the long tales are told of the "one that got away;" it is here where the locals and visitors rub shoulders and clink glasses or sway gaily to the tunes of Calypso music. Bahamas Youth Laser Tag

Live Battlefield presents the ultimate in live lasertag combat simulation in a round robin death match format. For kids and adults ages 7 and older. CaribFestX - Cultural Meeting

The public is invited to a meeting with the Minister of State for Culture, the Hon. Charles Maynard, and the Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Carl Bethel, regarding the way forward for culture in The Bahamas.

The meeting will be held on Thursday at 6 pm in the Ground Floor Conference Room of the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, on Thompson Boulevard. Presided by Dr. Nicolette Bethel, PhD, Director of Culture.

First Class Promotions presents another thrilling night of boxing bouts at "Break Out." The main event of the night will be the WBA Fede Caribe Middleweight Championship 12-round bout between the Bahamas' Elkeana "Punisher" Saunders and Floyd "The Blade" Trumpet of Trinidad.
