Annual Fox Hill Festival Aug 3 - 14 The Fox Hill Festival includes Fox Hill Day, the longest running day festival in The Bahamas starting back in 1888. The festival incorporates Emancipation celebrations and runs until Tues, Aug 14th. Legend has it that Fox Hill slaves received news of the freedom for slaves a week after the proclamation. Other events include: Fri Aug 3rd - The Official opening by the Minister of State for Culture at the Fox Hill Parade, 8 p.m with marching band, dances, a Junkanoo rushout by the Fox Hill Congos and fire works. Mon Aug 6 - A Junkanoo parade at 1.00 a.m. in the morning; The Ecumenical Service at The Fox Hill Parade at 11 a.m. attended by The Governor-General; The annual Festival Luncheon for 500 guests in Freedom Park, Fox Hill. Celebrations on Monday afternoon include climbing the greasy pole, plaiting of the Maypole and live music. Other activities in the week include a youth talent show; a reception and exhibition given by MP Fred Mitchell; a town meeting at St Mark's Native Baptist Church; an evening with Royal Bahamas Police Force; and an evening with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and an outdoor Gospel concert. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Aug 6 Emancipation Day This holiday also known as August Monday, celebrates the emancipation of slavery in the British Colonies in 1834. The holiday is celebrated with a Junkanoo Rush out, a day of beaching, sailing, and regattas in New Providence and the Out Islands.
