Annual Holiday Carnival Opening

The Holiday Carnival opens at 5 pm. Features food, games and 25 rides including the New Power Surge and Exciting Twister. Other rides include the bumper cars, Kami Kaze, Mega Drop, Pirate Ship and Graviton. Open weekdays at 5pm and 12 noon on weekends. Held at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre.

Christmas Extravaganza

Hosted by Adventure Learning Center. The drive-through event features a Christmas lights presentation with thousands of Christmas lights and over 1,000 glowing candles, a live Nativity scene, a live Jazz ensemble, Christmas Carolers and holiday music. Free hot chocolate and candy canes for the children. Begins 6 pm at Adventure Learning Center, Marshall Rd. Adm: $5 per car. T: 361-2120.

A prestigious tourney with some of the world's top tennis stars including Jim Courier, Bob and Mike Bryan, Xavier Malisse, Ryan Sweeting, Sebastian Grosjean, Mark Merklein, Corina Morariu, Jamea Jackson and Mark Knowles. Features a Pro Am tennis tournament for the sponsors, a celebrity event between the professionals, cocktails, diner parties, golf and water sports activities. 20th Annual Junior Junkanoo Parade

Hundreds of children from 15 schools are participating in this year's parade. The order for entry is as follows: In the pre-school division, Aunt Jenny's then One-on-One. In the primary schools, Walter Parker from Grand Bahama, first, followed by Revere Academy, Thelma Gibson, St. Thomas More, Reality Educare, Woodcock Primary, and Albury Sayle. The only school competing in the junior division is A. F. Adderley Junior High School. The order of entry for Senior High Schools is as follows: North Andros, first followed by C. C Sweeting, C. R Walker, Harbour Island All-Age School and Sir Jack Hayward from Grand Bahama. Participating but non-competing schools are C.V Bethel and S.C. McPherson Junior High, which will perform marching band-type routines. The winning schools receive a computer system; second place, a keyboard, and third place, a television and DVD player.

Breitling Golf Classic

A premier golfing event for amateurs from over the Caribbean, the US, Ireland, France and other countires. Features five flights of competition for over $40,000 in watches and prizes. The flights are divided into handicap groups 0-5, 6-9, 10-12, 13-18 and 19-24 and the participants will play Gross within those flights. A practice round will be held on Dec 7. Proceeds from the event to aid The National Workers' Cooperative Credit Union's Scholarship Fund, the Bahamas Golf Federation and the Northern Bahamas Council for the Disabled. Christmas Expressions: A memorial for Mrs. Pauline Glasby. Presented by The Nassau Renaissance Singers under the distinguished patronage of Their Excellencies The Governor General Arthur D. A number of local groups including The National Youth Choir, The College of the Bahamas Combined Orchestras, the Defense Force and Police Band, the Diocesan Chorale, Balcanto Singers, the Dicey Doh Male Quartet and the Nassau Renaissance Singers will be performing to honor Mrs. Glasby. Features Dr. Irv A. Brendlinger, professor of church history and theology at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, U.S.A, delivering two lectures on 18th century slavery and religion. Topics include: To Be Silent Would Be Criminal . . How One Person's Voice Broke the Chains of Slavery and John Wesley's Challenge to Slavery. Both lectures will focus on slavery and the response of the church during the 18th century.
